MORONGO BASIN SPELL-A-THON

The Friends of the Morongo Basin Libraries (Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, and Twentynine Palms) are partnering to promote literacy in the Basin and benefit your local library. The Spell-A-Thon raises money to help the nonprofit library groups in the high desert provide services, such as the popular Summer Reading Program, for children and adults in the Morongo Basin.

The Annual Spell-A-Thon will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Yucca Valley Community Center, 57090 29 Palms Hwy, Yucca Valley, CA 92284 from 10 a.m. to 1p.m.  Help promote literacy and fund programs in your local library by forming a team and gathering pledges. This is a fun and friendly competition, and you are encouraged to find sponsors (family, friends, and co-workers) who will pledge money to support your team efforts. A prize will be awarded to the team that raises the most money from pledges.

You don’t have to be an amazing speller to have fun and help your team. Each team of 3people will work together to spell given words in rotation. Your team can be made up of friends, co-workers, or fellow service club members. More information, schedule, pledge sheet, rules and practice words will be sent to each team after your team is registered. 

Prizes will be awarded to the two teams that spell the most words correctly. The first-place team will receive $100 in cash for each member.  The second-place team will receive a $25 gift card for each member.  Drawings for door prizes for spectators as well as the team members will be held. 

To register your team click the link below, complete the registration form, and pay a $25 registration fee. Space is limited to the first dozen teams to sign up. The deadline for signing up is 4 p.m. on March 13. On March 21, the public is invited to join us to cheer on the spellers and purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win great prizes.
