How We Support the Library
Members of the Friends love to read, and we suppose that you do, too. Our by-laws state that "The purpose of this Corporation shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries; to focus public attention and to stimulate the use of the library's resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests to the Friends of the Yucca Valley Library; to support and cooperate with the library staff in developing library services and facilities for the benefit of the community; to lend legislative support, as needed, for maintaining free libraries and to encourage and support the American Library Association's Bill of Rights, and the Freedom to Read and the Freedom to View."
To support these goals, fundraising takes many different forms.
We raise money for these activities that serve the community by running the Friends of the Library bookstore. There you will find books, DVDs, and audio books to purchase, generally for a dollar or less! The community supports the Friends by donating gently used books to our Book Sale, hardcover and paperback, in a variety of categories, including mystery, fantasy, biography, cooking, art, gardening, the environment, politics, history, religion, and books for children and young adults.
Silent auctions, now to be featured online!
Through the generosity of local merchants, we can auction off a monthly basket of goods, coupons, and services.
The sale of refreshments at community events.
Fundraisers in conjunction with local restaurants.
And your generosity in joining the Friends of the Yucca Valley Library.
We use these funds to purchase books, DVDs, and newspapers. The Friends also support the Summer Reading Program by providing funds for performers and reading incentives. In addition to providing and upgrading the library's computer resources, the Friends have contributed to the funding of the new library building itself. All our funds go to enhancing community resources at the Yucca Valley Library. The Friends of the Yucca Valley Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Federal Tax ID 31-1599770. Donations and gifts to the Friends are tax deductible.
